Union County High School Patriots Go to the Playoffs for First Time in History

The Union County High School Patriots Football team finished the season out facing off in the playoffs with Anderson County High School.

This season is one to go down in the history books as this is the first time the Patriots have made it to the playoffs.

When Coach Larry Kerr took over, he promised the team that they would win games. That has been a promise he kept.

Prior to Coach Kerr, the team had 26 game losing streak, the longest in Tennessee History. Their first game with Kerr was lost, extending the losing streak to 27, but the next game was promising. The Patriots defeated Cosby.

Kerr’s first objective in creating a winning team was to pick the kids’ heads up. After a record setting losing streak, the idea of being a “loser” would seem instilled in your head.

Kerr made other simple changes to the team, like making sure every player had a matching uniform and upgraded the gear and facilities.

In the playoffs, the Patriots lost to Anderson County, a team who was undefeated in the season.

This is the first time in history of Union County High School for their football team to travel to the playoffs. Horace Maynard High School Devils went to the playoffs but that was not the same school.

Congratulations, Patriots!
