Update on Local and State 2016 Elections

The deadline for candidates to file to run for city council in the upcoming Maynardville City Election was Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Noon. According to the Union County Election Website the following Candidates have picked up papers and turned them in to qualify to run for office.

  • Incumbent – Len Padgett
  • Incumbent – Lawrence Thomas
  • Incumbent – Timothy Young
  • Marty Smith
  • Jason Tabor
  • Darrell Beeler had picked up papers, but had not turned them back in by the Noon deadline on Thursday according to the website.

The three Incumbents are running for re-election and are being faced by Smith and Tabor for seats on the Council. The Maynardville City Council has 5 seats, with only three coming up this year. Smiley Richardson, the current Mayor, and Charles McClure ran two years ago and still have two years in their term.

The County General Election and State Primaries will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016. The following is a current list of candidates who have picked up papers to run in the county general election so far for the upcoming election. The qualifying deadline for the state primary and county general election is noon on April 7, 2016.
