Luttrell Man Wrecks After Fleeing from Deputies

Union County Deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Ridgecrest Road in Luttrell on Sunday, June 12, 2017 around 11:16 AM for a domestic disturbance call.

There, deputies encountered a male fleeing the residence in a maroon Dodge pickup, and in the scurry, the man attempted to strike one of the officer’s vehicles.

A pursuit ensued but ended shortly in the 800 block of Archer Road when the male went off road into a field and struck a tree.

While in the vehicle, deputies say that the male brandished an item resembling the barrel of a rifle while shouting, “I have a gun and you will have to kill me.”

Additional aid was called to the scene. The department says many avenues were exhausted while attempting to find a resolution. Officers were forced to advance on the vehicle where they found 57-year-old Johnny N. Adams inside. Adams had what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries from a sharp object.

Adams was transported to an area hospital by Union County EMS where he is currently listed in critical condition. According to the Sheriff’s Department, charges are pending for aggravated assault on a police officer and felony evading arrest.

In this week’s edition of the Union News Leader, we covered a story where Adams was arrested in Knox County as recently as last week. There, he was charged with due care, indecent exposure, and indecent exposure (victim under 13).
