Dennis Powers Tours Union County 911

On August 25, 2017 Tennessee House of Representative Dennis Powers and along with Amber McDonald, Director of Government and External Affairs for the Department of Commerce and Insurance, visited Union County 911.

Mr. Powers represents the 36th District of Tennessee, encompassing Campbell County and parts of Union and Anderson County. He was given a tour of the emergency call taking center by Interim Director Andrew Reed and Sheriff Billy Breeding.

According to their website, the Department of Commerce and Insurance, all state 911 centers are operated by the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board. The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board is a self-funded nine-member board located within the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. The Board was created to establish emergency communications for citizens across the state and assist emergency communications districts (“ECDs”) in the areas of management, operations, and accountability.
The Board operates on local, state and federal levels to facilitate the technical, financial and operational advancement of Tennessee’s 911 systems. The Board is currently modernizing the State’s 911 infrastructure in order to provide more efficient 911 services to the citizens of Tennessee. The project, known as NG911, involves the construction and management of a secure and redundant internet protocol network that will improve 911 call delivery and enhance interoperability between ECDs, which will ultimately result in the quicker and more reliable deployment of emergency response services.
